About

Apple Distinguished School

Embley is recognised as an Apple Distinguished School for 2021-2024. Apple Distinguished Schools are centres of innovation, leadership and educational excellence. The selection of Embley as an Apple Distinguished School highlights the school’s success in creating an innovative and compelling learning environment that engages pupils and provides tangible evidence of academic achievement.

Embley implemented its new Digital Learning Strategy over five years ago and we have continued to evolve our use of technology in the classroom to enhance learning. Every pupil from Reception to Year 13 has a school iPad for the duration of their studies to aid deeper learning. All subjects across all ages benefit from the implementation of this technology. Some examples include completing research by accessing knowledge and mediums in a variety of forms; teachers streaming an explanation of a task to pupils’ iPad devices; using augmented reality to bring a subject matter to life; its use in Sport to record, analyse and feedback on athletic performance of a pupil; and developing story telling by using multimedia sources such as stop animation stories.

Headmaster, Cliff Canning, commented:

“Our use of technology is firmly grounded on solid research and teaching best practice. Technology at Embley is not a substitute but an enabler and accomplice to successful learning. I’m proud of how we evolved the use of technology to help our children to be their best. We’re committed to developing the skills, disposition and attitude within children to be conversant with technology, recognising how it drives progress and ultimately how it serves to make the world a better place.”
