Joining the Embley Family

We love Renaissance children, who will make the most of the range of learning experiences open to them as they discover themselves and who they want to become.

Embley is a school for remarkable girls and boys with the capacity to wonder; for the curious, the enquirers, and those who share our passion for learning. Our admissions process focuses on potential rather than just prior attainment and we spend a lot of time getting to know every new family that wants to join our community. We know we will only see the best version of each child if they, and their family, feel calm and confident about the journey they are taking and enjoy the admissions process.

Make an application

As an all-through school, children can join our Nursery & Pre-School from the age of 2 and continue their education to Sixth Form. Our main entry points are Nursery, Reception, Year 7, 9 and 12 but we also accept applications for other year groups, where places are available. Our Boarding House accommodates girls and boys from Year 7 to Sixth Form.

Our admissions process has been carefully designed so that children can show us their character, curiosity and passion for learning alongside their academic abilities. This approach allows us to make sure every child is well suited to Embley life.

The best way to learn more about Embley is to come and see the school for yourself, either as part of one of our open events or for an individual visit. We are always delighted to welcome parents and their children to the school at any stage during the admissions process and at any time of year.

Apply for a place

To apply for a place for your child at Embley, please complete our online registration form and provide a registration fee. We will then guide you through the admissions process for the year group your child will join.

Join a taster session

Our taster events provide a great opportunity for children to discover Embley for themselves, where they meet their potential classmates and teachers and take part in a range of taster lessons and experiences.

References & School Reports

Upon receipt of your child’s registration form, we will ask for a reference from your child’s current school. We will also ask you to send to us a copy of your child’s most recent school report.

Complete our entrance assessments

NURSERY ASSESSMENTS

Children will be offered settle sessions and then a full taster day. Our Head of Early Years will reflect on how the children settle and engage and provision required, ahead of a place being offered and session availability confirmed.

PREP SCHOOL ASSESSMENTS

Children currently in Reception and Year 1 will be invited to join a taster session and take part in lessons. Teachers will reflect on how a child engages with their peers, the school day, and numeracy and literacy activities.

Children currently in Year 2 or applying for Year 3 to 6 will complete a short-written task and complete a computer-based cognitive ability quiz which measures how a child can think in areas known to make a difference in achievement and learning. Assessments normally take place as part of a taster day.

SENIOR SCHOOL ASSESSMENTS

Children complete an English written paper and a computer-based cognitive ability test which measures how a child can think in areas known to make a difference in achievement and learning. Year 8 and 10 applicants, and all children wishing to join our Senior School mid-academic year, will sit an additional written Maths paper.

Applicants are also invited to attend an interview with a member of our Senior Leadership Team.

SIXTH FORM ENTRTY REQUIREMENTS

All Sixth Form candidates are expected to achieve a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 9 to 5, including English and Maths, and at least grade 7 in the A Level subjects to be studied, or equivalent subjects.

Applicants are also invited to attend an interview with a member of our Senior Leadership Team.

Offer of a place

You will need to complete all the paperwork included in our acceptance pack in order to secure your offer. We will ask for payment of an acceptance deposit to secure the place. A waiting list may be available for children who have reached an appropriate standard in our entrance assessments where the year group is full.

Having completed our entrance process, progression through Embley is normally assured by a combination of appropriate attitude to learning, behaviour and academic achievement.

Progress through the school

All children who join us at one of our younger entry points will enjoy a full career at Embley, proceeding through our Senior School to study GCSEs and onto our Sixth Form to study A Levels.

All pupils will sit our entrance assessments for entry into Year 7 at the Senior School and progression onto the Sixth Form is normally assured by a combination of appropriate behaviour, hard work and academic success.
