We are proud of our reputation across many sporting disciplines; from an inter-school to national and international level. Yet we believe the journey to success is as much if not more fulfilling than the winning itself.
Benefits of sport
Along with the mental and physical benefits of sport, we place a strong emphasis on the broader life skills of humility, respect, tolerance, teamwork, resilience and discipline that sets true sports people apart.
From enthusiastic beginners to those pursuing sporting excellence in an established discipline, we celebrate every level of achievement across our community through an inclusive, engaging and creative programme. For potential elite young sports people, we also offer a performance sport scholarship programme which offers a range of benefits.
Our on-site facilities see students train and compete in our core team sports of rugby, hockey, cricket and netball. Every season, you will find students in weekly squad training after school, with winter cricket training taking place before the start of the school day. Embley is also home to a stunning 9-hole golf course, with lessons available for students of all ages and abilities.
Sailing is a popular sport across the school, with many Senior School and Sixth Form students enjoying our keelboat development and race sailing programmes. We are immensely proud of our keelboat race team who have done incredibly well in recent years at the Round the Island Race, and they have their eyes set on the Fastnet.
Athletics, swimming, handball, football, team building activities and fitness training form part of our comprehensive Physical Education programme and these experiences are enhanced with practical workshops with professional athletes such as Alex Danson MBE (Hockey Olympic Gold Medallist) and Serena Guthrie (England Netball). As part of our Senior Games programme for Year 11 to 13 students enjoy a wider range of choice during lessons in addition to our core sports such as rock climbing, paddle boarding, kayaking, golf, archery and tennis.
