From the moment your child steps through the doors of our Prep School, they will feel a powerful sense of belonging and they will be surrounded by a really supportive team. Our children have a genuine connection to those around them, building confidence which then fuels academic success and growth of emotional and social wellbeing. This is our Embley community. Reception to Year 6 come together for whole school assembly twice a week – Monday assemblies focus on our half termly themes such as ‘celebrating difference’, ‘relationships’, ‘changing me’ and dreams and goals’. These feed into more focused PSHE lessons, tutor time and small group discussions where we talk about these important themes and how we can each apply new skills and behaviours learned.
On Fridays we have our Celebration Assembly where we announce our ‘Star Learner of the Week’, the House captains give an update on House point totals and we share more individual achievements be it in music, performing arts, community activities or sport.
Advice & Support
Our form teachers get to know each child really well and pick up on the smallest of changes in mood, behaviour and engagement.
A child’s perception is their reality; so, if ever a child is upset or worried, there will be a reason for it. Support is always there, and we’ll take time to sit and listen to children, talk through and help them navigate any challenges as they grow. Our school counsellor, Kate, offers individual and small group sessions for children to explore their worries and develop strategies to strengthen relationships and enhance confidence and self-esteem.
The Wellbeing Hub
We share exclusive access to the Wellbeing Hub with our parents.
This is a professionally endorsed resource that has been developed by child and adolescent mental health and wellbeing expert, Alicia Drummond. It’s an online platform that has been designed to help parents understand and meet their child’s social and emotional needs as they grow up.
Careers
At Prep School age, our careers-based discussions are focused around broadening minds and showing the breadth of possibilities open to the children in their futures.
Career-related learning at Prep is delivered through our PSHE programme, with visiting guests having included engineers, helicopter pilots, scientists and lawyers, sharing a wide range of experiences with the children to spark their imaginations.
Leadership
We empower children to have a voice and take an active role in the leadership of our school.
Our Prep Council is formed of pupil representatives from each year group who meet regularly to discuss matters arising around school and help inform the school’s development plans.
In preparation for Senior School, our Year 6 children are given additional responsibilities. These include prefect roles and house captains where children lead on a range of tasks around the school, setting standards and role model behaviours to others. We also have our Year 6 Reception class buddies who act as mentors and read with our young children on a weekly basis.
