Year 6 embarked on an exciting adventure for their residential trip to Mill on the Brue Outdoor Activity Centre in Somerset.
The children fully embraced a wide range of experiences and challenges designed to develop their confidence, problem-solving and leadership skills with activities including bushcraft, abseiling, archery and the gladiator wall. Year 6 also had the opportunity to put their teamwork and communication skills to the test on the assault cause, challenge track, tunnelling and scaling the great wall. Pupils also enjoyed working together raft building with some teams engineering impressively sturdy vessels, while others provided plenty of laughter as they came apart in the water! The zip wire was the perfect end to a fantastic week as the children soared above the site, taking in the beautiful landscape and views of the activities they had conquered during the week.
It was wonderful to see our pupils step out of their comfort zones, build their confidence and create lasting memories:
- "Mill on the Brue was an amazing experience. I enjoyed air rifle shooting and the zip wire the most. The instructors were really fun; Ella my instructor helped me overcome my fear of heights." Jack
- "I really enjoyed everything we did at Mill on the Brue, and it was a great week. If I had to choose a favourite activity it would have to be abseiling. The worst part was climbing up all the ladders to get to the top. When I got to the top I was very proud and completely forgot I still had to abseil down! When I got all clipped in and went down the wall I was so scared, but it was so fun. When I got to the bottom I had to pull out my amazing superhero pose!" Flo
- "The food was great and I liked how they encouraged not wasting food and how any food waste would be composted to help grow more plants." Sam
- "I loved Mill on the Brue, it was so fun to go round the site and do so many different activities. Also, it was a great opportunity to get to know pupils that I don’t usually get to talk to." Lucy
- "I think it was very well thought out and I loved how they incorporated old, recycled car tyres into everything they could to encourage recycling and sustainability." Freddie
- "I thought that Mill on the Brue was incredible the activities, our instructor (Freya) and especially the food! My favourite activity was archery. Freya was so helpful. And last but not least was the… campfire! The songs were amazing we sang the whole way back to school." Naty
