NURSERY & PRE-SCHOOL

Learning

Nursery

From the age of two, children blossom in a nurturing and caring environment. As well as literacy and numeracy, each week your child will benefit from dedicated Music, PE and Natural Science lessons with our specialist Prep teachers.

They will start to develop letter and sound recognition in phonics and number recognition in maths, along with their listening and attention skills, understanding of the world, arts and crafts and expressive arts. With a carefully crafted combination of child- and adult-led activities, learning is tailored to a child’s interests and the next stages of their development.

Pre-School

As your child moves into our Pre-School, they are introduced to a more structured environment but still with lots of opportunities for play and discovery centred around their interests.

They will start each day with maths and phonics lessons, working in small groups and learning to work as a team.

French is introduced into the curriculum alongside our specialist teaching for Music, PE and Natural Sciences. We help children develop their listening and concentration skills, which includes mindfulness activities such as yoga, threading and dough disco. In the Summer term, the children enjoy a number of transition sessions where they explore the Reception classroom with their new teacher.

Our children are led by our Head of Early Years and Pre-School Leader, who are both qualified teachers. Our Head of Early Years is a Level 3 Qualified Forest School Leader and all our Nursery & Pre-School staff are qualified Level 3 Early Years practitioners as a minimum.

Early Years Curriculum

Our carefully crafted Early Years curriculum centres around areas for school readiness:

  • Building self-confidence and self-awareness by starting to understand and manage feelings and behaviours and fostering relationships.
  • Nurturing every child’s physical development - fine motor skills (writing, cutting, threading, colouring etc.) and gross motor skills (running, climbing, skipping etc.).
  • Listening attentively, following instruction, expressing themselves and being aware of others around them.
