Adventure & Service

Our children thrive when their learning is fuelled by a spirit of adventure and new environments packed full of meaningful life lessons. Empowered to cross boundaries and challenge themselves to try something new, your child will discover more about themselves. These experiences and achievements develop a growth mindset and fuel confidence and competencies that they will take back to the classroom as well as forward through life.

From learning about duty and service through community outreach, to understanding how teamwork leads to smooth sailing on Embley’s fleet of keelboats, there is nothing better than seeing the delight on children’s faces when they realise what they are capable of.

All children at Embley are encouraged to be outward looking; understanding that the world does not stop at the end of one’s nose but that it is by enriching the lives of those around them that they will find the greatest happiness.

We are proud to be a strong and sharing community, and our children understand the importance of service at a local and global level. We build links with the causes we are supporting so that the children can better understand the challenges that charities are facing and how their efforts are having a positive impact on society and helping others.

“Pupils display modesty and humbleness about their own attributes, reflecting an egalitarian and compassionate approach to life in keeping with the school aims.”

Each Summer we visit our partner school in rural Ghana, Little Roses, to help with teaching, sports coaching and renovating parts of the school. Embley fundraising has enabled a new water tank to be installed at the school, providing vital clean water to pupils.

Across our Prep and Senior Schools, children lead fundraising initiatives. We have strong links with local care homes, where residents enjoy coming into school to watch our many school performances and we take our classroom into the community.

Exploring adventure and service at Embley

Our children are articulate and confident, with a strong sense of social responsibility. We achieve this by providing an education beyond the classroom that helps them grow intellectually, physically, spiritually and emotionally.

Sailing

Standing tall and just 20 miles from Embley, our fleet of boats are moored at Lymington Harbour. Our sailing programme works closely with the Royal Lymington Yacht Club, with opportunities for the complete beginner to those wishing to be part of our competitive team racing.

From Year 5, we offer dinghy sailing and Embley is a member of the British School’s Dinghy Racing Association, enabling active sailors to join our team racing and development squads and represent the school on the water in regional and national team race events.

Combined Cadet Force

Embley’s CCF provides a platform to develop skills useful in all walks of life. The exhilarating training programme includes fieldcraft, navigation, expedition training, signal and weapons handling qualifications, first aid, archery, and use of our dedicated indoor rifle range.

We have a wonderful relationship with the Historic Army Air Flight (HAAF) charity, also based at Middle Wallop, who have supported our cadets by providing hands-on experience with both fixed wing and rotary aircraft, as well as offering careers advice and guidance within the aeronautical engineering sector.

Duke of Edinburgh at Embley

Valued by universities and employers, the Duke of Edinburgh Award helps students broaden their horizons and develop friendships but perhaps most importantly it helps hone vital skills such as self-discipline, time management, problem solving and communication skills which enhance academic progression.

Being physically and emotionally demanding, expeditions take place in wild, open terrain. They last up to four nights at Silver and Gold level. Taking in some of the most beautiful scenery in the British Isles including the New Forest, Brecon Beacons and Snowdonia, students grow a life-long love for the outdoors and nature.
