Geography trip to Morocco

Students from Year 8 and 9 had an incredible experience exploring Morocco on a week-long Geography tour.

Their journey began in Marrakesh, visiting cultural landmarks including the Koutoubia Mosque, Bahia Palace, the Water Museum and the beautiful Menara gardens. They also wandered through the tiny, winding streets of the Medina, soaking up the vibrant atmosphere in Jemaa El Fnaa square.

They travelled across the semi-arid Haouz plain ascending into the High Atlas Mountains. The scenery was breathtaking as they crossed the Tizi n’Tichka Pass taking in the rugged terrain, deep valleys, and charming Berber villages.

Students embarked on an exciting off-road adventure to Erg Chegaga with the highlight of the trip being a magical night spent under the stairs in an authentic chegaga desert camp. They even managed to spot the Milky Way!

Our students also visited the historic village of Tamegroute, UNESCO world heritage Aït Benhaddou and Ouarzazate, the ‘Hollywood of Morocco’. The striking mix of nature and ancient architecture make it one of the most popular film locations in the world. Students had the opportunity to visit Atlas Film Studios to learn about careers in the film industry and make their own short movie on the set of Cleopatra.

Throughout the trip, the students explored Morocco’s culture, history and desert ecosystem, considering the impact of globalisation and tourism on the region. What an unforgettable trip.
