Remembrance Day

Our Embley community commemorated Remembrance across the school, paying tribute to those affected by war and armed conflict. We held our Remembrance Service at Embley Senior School which was led by Reverend Thomas Wharton from Romsey Abbey. Year 5 and 6 joined senior students, staff and parents . During the service, our Embley CCF cadets escorted the Colour Party with great precision and performances from the Embley Orchestra set the tone for the service.

Heads of School, Liv and Josh, shared stories on the theme of courage whilst reflecting on their personal connections to Remembrance Day. The winner of our poetry competition, Charlotte (Year 9), recited her poem ‘The Heart of a Soldier’. Charlie and Marlin (Year 6) also gave a poignant recital of ‘Peace’ by Georgia Douglas Johnson before we observed a two-minute silence bookended with The Last Post and Reveille performed by Samuel (Year 10).

Our Embley cadets also fundraised for the Royal British Legion by participating in a Poppy Walk around the grounds, whilst Ollie (Year 12), Lydia (Year 12) and Paige (Year 11) volunteered in the local community selling poppies.

In Natural Sciences, Year 1 and 2 designed poppy sculptures. The children printed poppies using apples and natural materials discovered in the Embley woods. They then created a beautiful and informative display for our Prep School Foyer to mark the occasion.

On Remembrance Sunday, our CCF cadets attended the Romsey Abbey Remembrance Day Service. Under the command of Ollie (Year 12) and Miles (Year 12), they marched to Romsey War Memorial Park to observe the two minute silence. Every section of the contingent, including our new recruits, have worked hard to perfect their foot drill skills for this important occasion. The cadets took great responsibility for their roles with Paige (Year 11) acting as standard bearer, Ben (Year 9) as sentry on the cenotaph and Spencer (Year 12) who laid the Embley poppy wreath. It was an honour for our CCF cadets to be part of the parade and do their bit to help ensure such important service and sacrifice continues to be remembered.
