Year 3 journeyed through the ages at Butser Ancient Farm to enhance their learning on prehistoric Britain.
Butser Ancient Farm is an open-air experimental archaeology museum and active research centre that teaches about the past by recreating it using real UK archaeology. Pupils travelled back through 10,000 years of human history, exploring buildings, technologies and everyday life through immersive and practical activities.
The day started with a talk in a Bronze Age round house where pupils imagined what it felt like to live in those times. During the trip the children transformed into archaeologists to take part in excavating ancient artefacts. Pupils then had the opportunity explore Stone Age and Iron Age houses, comparing the similarities and differences between the periods in history. Year 3 then tried their hands at chalk carving and fence wattling. The day was a great success with pupils engaging fully in all the experiences and activities enhancing their learning on prehistoric Britain.
