In February half term, students travelled to Scotland for our Winter Skills Trip. The experience was led by winter mountain leaders and winter mountaineering instructors from Glenmore Lodge.Out on the mountains, students acquired essential winter skills including walking on challenging terrain, mastering crampons and safely navigating across steep ground using ice axes. They also gained a deeper understanding of winter navigation, the harsh realities of the mountain environment and the importance of safety and self-reliance.
Highlights of the trip included the Banff Mountain Film Festival, visiting the Glenmore Lodge climbing wall and witnessing the Coastguard SAR helicopter embark on rescue missions – an awe-inspiring sight. Students enjoyed documenting the experience through video logs and it was great to see them so determined as they built their independence and confidence on the mountain. We look forward to seeing where their outdoor adventures take them next.
