Senior School

Drama at Embley is a thriving subject, with plenty of opportunities for our students to get involved in productions be it to perform, design or direct.

We have a wide range of performing spaces across the school including our fully equipped Performing Arts Studio, the Atherley Hall which can seat up to 300 people and then there is our 130 acre grounds which provide ample opportunities for open air performances.

Professional touring companies and outside groups are regular visitors to Embley. And attending professional theatre workshops and masterclasses and our Senior School Drama Club (led by our Sixth Form A Level drama students) adds to the richness and breadth of our Drama curriculum. Our creative arts showcase events enable our parents to come and see the outstanding talent demonstrated by our students.

Our Drama department seeks to nurture talent and inspire a lifelong love for the theatre and performing arts. Our students are proud of their work, confident and unique individuals, many of whom go on to choose Drama as a GCSE and A Level option.

Embley Arts Award

The Embley Arts Award offers a broad range of opportunities and benefits to our students. It is a student led award which is designed to help grow skills in the performing arts (with a choice of completing the award via Art, Music, or Drama). But in addition to completing a performance, students can build a much broader range of essential skills, including as organisation, leadership, planning and teaching.

The Arts Award runs at different grade levels, so students can progress through the programme during their time at Embley. The Gold Arts Award can be used as UCAS points towards a student’s university application. In England, the awarding body is Trinity College London and it is managed in association with Arts Council England. The qualification is regulated by Ofqual (Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation).
