Admissions FAQ

HOW DO I APPLY FOR A PLACE?

If you are a new familiy to Embley and you would like to progress an application, our registration process is simple and completed online. Here is a link to our registration form - www.embley.org.uk/apply and you will be asked to pay a £120 registration fee. When we receive your application, our Admissions team will be in touch to discuss the next steps.

If your child is currently at Embley, there is no need to reapply for a place at our Senior School or in our Sixth Form. As an all-through school from age 2 to 18, your child can enjoy a seamless transition through to A Levels without any extra admissions procedures or interviews.

WHEN IS THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS?

For children looking to join our main entry points of Year 7, 9 or 12 in September 2027, our deadline for applications is Friday 27 November 2026. This is also the deadline for scholarship applications. Further information about our key admissions dates for these entry points is available here.

If you are considering an application for another year group or a mid-year application, please contact our Admissions team on 01794 527371 or email admissions@embley.org.uk who will be able to talk you through the next steps.

DO YOU OFFER TASTER DAYS?

Yes, we offer a range of different taster experiences which provide a great opportunity for children to discover Embley for themselves, where they meet their potential classmates and teachers and take part in a range of taster lessons and experiences.

We offer taster days in June 2026 for children currently in Year 5 who are looking at either a Year 7 (2027 entry) or Year 9 (2029 entry). Click here for more information and to book. In Autumn 2026, we will offer tasters for current Year 6 children looking at a Year 7 entry and currently Year 8 children looking at a Year 9 entry in September 2027. Please click here to note the dates in your diary and further information will be shared with parents in due course.

DO YOU OFFER SCHOLARSHIPS & BURSARIES?

We offer academic, creative and performing arts and sport scholarships. All scholarships awarded in Year 7 and 9 are valid for the duration of Senior School and scholarships awarded in Year 12 are valid for the duration of Sixth Form. Students who are awarded a creative and performing arts scholarship will be expected to take their field of expertise through to GCSE (for Year 7 and 9 awards) and Sixth Form (for Year 12 awards). Click here for further information.

We offer a limited number of means-tested bursaries to children joining the school in Year 7, 9 and 12 which are awarded on a case-by-case basis and based on financial need. Further information about bursaries is available on our Fees page.

WHAT BOARDING OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE?
Our Boarding House, the Manor House, sits at the heart of our school and is home to up to 70 students from the UK and overseas. We offer four boarding options – full boarding, weekly boarding, flexi mid-week boarding and ad hoc overnight boarding. For further information, please click here
IS THERE AN ENTRANCE ASSESSMENT FOR SENIOR SCHOOL?

Children complete an English written paper and a computer-based cognitive ability test which measures how a child can think in areas known to make a difference in achievement and learning. Year 8 and 10 applicants, and all children wishing to join our Senior School mid-academic year, will sit an additional written Maths paper. For all new Year 7 and 9 applicants, we hold an assessment morning in early January. Please check our Key Admissions Dates for more information.

WHAT IS YOUR ENTRANCE CRITERIA FOR SIXTH FORM?
All sixth form candidates are expected to achieve a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 9 to 5, including English and Maths, and at least grade 7 in the A Level subjects to be studied, or equivalent subjects. For further information about the A Level subjects we offer, please click here.
WILL MY CHILD HAVE AN INTERVIEW?
An important part of our admissions process is the interview so that we can have a conversation with each child and understand more about their interests, what motivates them and gain an insight into their attitude to learning. Children are interviewed by a member of our Senior Leadership Team.
HOW DOES YOUR SCHOOL TRANSPORT SYSTEM WORK?

We operate over 25 routes across Hampshire and Wiltshire, which provides a safe and environmentally friendly way for your child to travel to school from Reception age in Prep to Sixth Form - and helps relieve the challenges of the school run.

Our flexible transport booking system allows you to book by journey each week tailored to your family's needs. Parents also have access to our transport app which enables you to track your child’s minibus, make bookings and receive proximity alerts. For further information about our current routes, please click here
