Growing creativity in the garden

Year 4 enjoyed a fascinating trip to Sir Harold Hillier Gardens in Romsey, bringing their Art curriculum to life.

Led by a member of the Hillier’s team, the children took part in creative activities throughout the day including making their own natural curtains from leaves, flowers and sticks and using coloured lenses to see flowers from different insects’ viewpoints. Pupils also enjoyed colour palette matching, where they were challenged to find flowers and plants to match colours on their given colour palette.

The children also enjoyed learning about pollination and how Sir Harold was able to bring such a diverse range of plants to our doorstep. Year 4 are currently studying Georgia O’Keefe in Art and they loved using magnifying glasses to observe flowers closely, just as the artist herself did.
