We held our annual Embley Wellbeing Week from Monday 9 February to Friday 13 February. The week featured a range of experiences, workshops, talks and activities focused on the NHS’s five steps to mental wellbeing.
Highlights of Wellbeing Week at Embley Prep School included:
-
Sound bath sessions - Year 3 to 6 discovered the relaxing and restorative power of sound with co-founder of the Calm Collective, Kate Delves (Reiki Master and a certified sound healing practitioner).
-
Environment conservation at Lepe Beach - Year 5 embraced the chance to help protect our local environment with a litter picking trip to Lepe Beach. They learnt more about the importance of caring for our planet and the impact litter can have on wildlife while enjoying the beautiful coastal views.
-
Mindfulness Art & DT workshops – Years 3 and 4 explored how colours link to mood in a thoughtful artwork shop. They explored which colour represented each emotion to them and created visual art pieces to reflect how they felt throughout the week. Year 5 and 6 took part in a DT workshop where they learned different sewing techniques and created their own avocado plush.
-
Hygge Day - Pupils wore comfy clothes and embraced the Danish concept of creating a cozy, warm, and peaceful atmosphere to promote wellbeing.
-
Storytime with Mrs Gibb - Nursery to Year 2 were treated to a special story time with Head of Prep, Mrs Gibb. They took part in mindful stretching before settling down to enjoy one of Paddington's adventures.
Highlights of Wellbeing Week at Embley Senior School included:

Understanding Adolescence – Alicia Drummond (BACP accredited therapist, parent coach, speaker, author, mother and the founder of Teen Tips and The Wellbeing Hub) delved into the world of adolescence with students in Year 7 and 8.
-
Trashion show - Years 7 to 13 turned everyday waste into striking wearable art, demonstrating great imagination, originality and innovation.
-
Heart health pop up station – Lexington supported the British Heart Foundation's UK Heart Month with a special pop-up station. Students discovered more about why a healthy heart is important and how the food we eat can support our mental and physical wellbeing.
-
Mindfulness crafts - Senior school students had the chance to unwind with bracelet making and mindfulness colouring sessions.
-
Drug education workshop – Sixth Form students took part in an interactive session with drug education charity the Daniel Spargo-Mabbs Foundation.
-
Smoothie bikes – Students and staff raced their way to healthy smoothies, taste tested some energy-boosting recipes and discovered more about how we can reduce food waste.
Our Embley Wellbeing Week was a brilliant way to head into half term with a reminder of how vital it is to look after our health and wellbeing and that of others.
