Embley Book Week

Embley Book Week has been filled with a wide range of literary themed experiences and activities to celebrate our love of reading. This year our theme was 'Maps and Journeys'.

Nursery, Pre-School & Reception set off on an adventure to ‘The faraway land of Embley Prep’. Led by Year 5, the children weaved their own magical tales using a special map of the school. Along the way they used their imagination to interpret the scenery and create characters, before returning to the classroom to share their ideas with each other.

During the week, we were also delighted to welcome author and illustrator Leigh Hodgkinson, creator of Martha Maps It Out, who led an inspiring writing workshop for pupils from Reception to Year 4. Leigh shared the story and tips on how to create your own stories, characters and illustrations.

Year 1 to Year 4 were challenged to put what they had learnt into practice by creating their own story set in ‘The faraway land of Embley’. Year 6 and 8 led the activity, creating pop up stations at different locations around the Senior School to provide ideas and inspiration for their stories.

Students in Years 7, 8 and 9 took part in a lively book quiz and a 'spot the childhood story' activity. Students also held a 'character battle', where they were challenged to deliver a convincing argument to explain why their chosen literary character was the most important.

On Friday, we celebrated World Book Day by inviting pupils and staff across the school to dress up as their favourite literary characters in support of Little Roses School and Embley’s 1837 Project. Students in Years 11 to 13 also hosted a delicious literary-themed bake sale during break time to raise funds for the cause.
