Eco-Schools Green Flag Award

Embley has been awarded the internationally recognised Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation. The award recognises and celebrates the outstanding efforts of our students in promoting sustainability and environmental awareness throughout the school and wider community.

Over the past academic year, our dedicated Eco Committee has taken action to improve our environmental impact and complete the Eco-Schools' Seven Steps. Following a review of the school’s environment and curriculum, the Committee developed their own Eco-Code and action plan to inspire change.

Their initiatives included:

  • Hosting an assembly to raise awareness
  • Building bug hotels around the school grounds to encourage biodiversity
  • Transforming the courtyard garden into a vibrant, green space for students and to attract pollinators
  • Propagating house plants for school classrooms featuring QR codes with care instructions
  • Conducting a beach clean and fundraising for the Final Straw Foundation
  • Taking part in the Big Birdwatch organised by the RSPB

The Eco-Schools programme, established in 1994, has been inspiring young environmentalists for over 30 years and now operates in more than 100 countries worldwide. This accreditation is a testament to the passion, leadership and teamwork shown by our students, staff and wider community. We look forward to building on this success and continuing our journey toward a more sustainable future.
