Discovering Tutankhamun

Year 3 travelled back over 3000 years to bring their topic of Ancient Egypt to life with a special themed day and visit to the Tutankhamun exhibition. The children transformed into mummies, archaeologists and pharaohs to take part in their Egyptian Day. They emulated Howard Carter as they uncovered a newly found tomb at Embley Prep and developed theories about who it belonged to, taking clues from the artefacts they found. They also created mummies out of clay and designed sarcophagi with hieroglyphs and amulets to protect them in the afterlife. Year 3 also created a cartouche of their name and used ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs to write a letter home.

To further enhance their studies, Year 3 visited the internationally acclaimed Tutankhamun exhibition. The children had the opportunity to experience the wonder of discovery on a guided tour of the museum. Pupils broadened their knowledge as they explored accurate recreations of Tutankhamun's tomb, the treasures he was buried with and replicas of mummies found in the Valley of the Kings.
