Budgeting and beyond
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 visited Waitrose to develop their understanding of money and budgeting through a real-life shopping experience. Working in groups, the children planned a lunch, compared prices and selected ingredients while keeping within a set budget.
Throughout the activity, pupils strengthened their communication, teamwork and decision-making skills, while gaining a deeper understanding of the value of money and the importance of budgeting. They also had the opportunity to use cash to pay for their purchases, building confidence in everyday financial transactions. After returning to Embley Prep, pupils prepared and shared their meals together. The trip provided a fun and practical opportunity to build financial awareness, teamwork and independence.
