Year 9 students enjoyed an inspiring, creativity-packed residential trip to St Ives with activities including Art, Photography, 3D Design or Food and Nutrition on the itinerary.
The trip began at the Eden Project with a macro photography challenge. Students were given subject specific tasks from photographing edible plants to composing images using unique colours, shapes, patterns and textures.
Our Art students spent time at the Tate St Ives, learning about abstract art. They took part in a beach sculpture workshop and a painting 'en plein' workshop where they were challenged to record weather changes and seascapes using watercolours. The students also visited the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden and explored new techniques in a cyanotype photography workshop.
Meanwhile, students interested in Food Preparation & Nutrition had a unique experience at the Porthminster Cafe where they foraged food from the cliff tops and kitchen garden with guidance from the chefs, learnt how to fillet mackerel and enjoyed a delicious meal they had helped to create. They also visited the Bosavern Community Farm, who produce and sell local, sustainable food. Students learnt more about organic food, regenerative agriculture and got hands-on planting trees, farming for potatoes and helping care for the animals. The trip was an exciting, creative and enriching experience for our students.
