An enchanting Book Week

Embley Prep had a spellbinding fairy tale themed Book Week! Our enchanting extravaganza began with the discovery of a mysterious foundling in the Woodland Library. The children followed a trail of feathers to a magical baby abandoned in a nest. Who could this mysterious child have been? Challenged to use ‘The Foundling’ as a starting point, pupils put their creative writing skills to the test to produce their own stories in English lessons.

Our Reception classroom transformed into a hub of fairy tale worlds. Pupils became explorers, travelling the different worlds as they learnt more about the characters and the lands they inhabited. Nursery were also creative with glue and glitter, building their own sparkling Rapunzel towers!

On World Book Day, pupils transformed into their favourite characters with amazing costumes. Nursery to Year 5 went on a fairy tale trail around our beautiful grounds led by Year 6. They enchanted their audience with performances of traditional stories including Little Red Riding Hood, Billy Goats Gruff and Snow White. Our older pupils really bought the characters to life and it was wonderful to see them interacting and building relationships with the younger children!

Other activities during the week included ‘Shelfies’ (guessing which teacher has posted which ‘shelfie’ of some of their favourite books), short story writing competitions, a World Book Day House quiz and an online author workshop and draw-along with Axel Scheffer.

Prep also launched a sponsored ‘Readathon’ in aid of the Read for Good charity. The children are encouraged to read a wide range of genres, poetry and comics to raise money for the charity. The Readathon will continue through the Easter holidays.
