Our Sixth Form students are celebrating another outstanding year of A Level results which show what can be achieved with ambition, hard work and determination, and with inspirational teachers and supportive families by their side. Almost half (53.3%) of results were the very highest grades required by the UK's top universities (A*-B) and 76% of all gradees were A*-C).Many students gaining at least one and in many cases two grades above their baseline predictions, placing Embley is in the top 5% nationally for value added. This is an indication of how significant the Embley approach to teaching and learning is to enabling students to be better than their best.
Mathematics and English Literature are in the top 1% of schools nationally for value added. Rather than relying solely on exam results, this measure takes account of where a student started from and the progress they have made relative to other students across the country.
There were many incredible individual achievements, including Callum (A*A*A*) who will read Biochemistry at the University of Oxford, Mia (A*A*AA) is heading to Bristol to read Veterinary Science, Caleb (AAA) will read Chemical Engineering at Birmingham and Evie (A*AB) will read History at Exeter.
Alongside their studies, these students have also made a significant contribution to the school in their roles of leadership at Embley, from being part of our Combined Cadet Force and Duke of Edinburgh programme to leading their peers and younger students as part of our keelboat sailing programme, Embley Gryphons (our electric racing car team) and Embley Asset Management. These experiences have not only provided a balance with academic studies but enabled students to develop a rich skill set.
Headmaster, Cliff Canning, commented: “We are immensely proud of every Year 13 student. These results show how an Embley education can take children beyond what statistics say they can achieve. Our students leave Embley with a promising future ahead of them, a portfolio of strong academic results and a finely tuned emotional and intellectual toolkit.”
We look forward to welcoming a record-breaking number of students to Year 12 in September with the cohort almost doubling in size as we continue to grow our very successful Sixth Form.
