Senior Curriculum

Our Senior School curriculum ensures that we deliver the broadest educational experience. This enables our students to keep the widest range of future options open, as they develop their passion and intellectual curiosity for subjects. Alongside our rich curricular and co-curricular programme, students participate in a weekly Games afternoon, a Physical Education (PE) lesson and a fortnightly Personal Social and Health Education (PSHE) lesson as part of their core timetable.

For all Senior School year groups, English is taught in mixed ability groups, with stretch and challenge for the top end and support for those who need it achieved through targeted differentiation. Mathematics is taught according to attainment from Year 9, this ensures that class content is well-targeted to students who may be preparing for different GCSE exam levels or advanced academic qualifications. All students learn French and Spanish in Years 7 and 8. In Year 9, students choose to study French or Spanish with a view to taking that language through to GCSE.

All students study a core of five GCSE subjects. This comprises English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Combined Sciences (two GCSEs). Students are expected to take a further four ‘optional’ subjects, which can include Separate Sciences and we expect our students to select a Modern Foreign Language.
