Senior School

International Students

We are always delighted to consider high achieving students with ambitions to go to the top UK and other world-class universities. We expect a reasonable level of fluency in English when you join us. However, we offer a great deal of extra language support to our international students where this is needed. Please click here to find out more about our entry requirements.

Students joining us from the age of 11 (Year 7) will follow our standard curriculum in the Senior School which will prepare them for GCSEs.

In Year 7, students study English, Mathematics and Science, as well as Art, Design Technology, Computer Science, Drama, Geography, French, History, Music, Physical Education (PE) and Games, Religious Studies, Spanish and Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE).

Two Year GCSE Programme

Students have the opportunity to achieve nine GCSE qualifications during this two-year programme in Years 10 and 11. GCSEs (General Certificate of Secondary Education) are national academic qualifications taken at age 16 in the UK. Students study a core of five subjects of English Language, English Literature, Mathematics and Science (Combined Science: two GCSEs; or Separate Sciences: three GCSEs). In addition, they select four optional subjects which should be based on academic ability as well as their personal enjoyment of the subjects:

Art, Craft & Design Music
Biology Physics
Business Studies Photography
Chemistry Physical Education
Computer Science Religious Studies
Drama Spanish
French Textile Design
Geography Three Dimensional Design
History

As part of the programme, students also participate in a weekly Games afternoon and a Physical Education (PE) lesson, and a fortnightly Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) lesson.

English as a second language (EAL)

For students who are not fluent English speakers or writers when they arrive, we provide tailored EAL support to meet their individual needs so that they can enjoy and fully benefit from the pace of learning at Embley.
