Earlier this year, we launched a student peer mentoring programme which sees older and younger Embley students matched together based on the needs of the mentee and strengths and qualities of the mentor.
The pilot programme centres around mental health and wellbeing, with students developing special and lasting relationships during their weekly meeting, with the mentor providing advice and support, and serving as a role models.
Evidence shows that schemes such as these have a range of positive outcomes for young people including increased happiness, wellbeing, self-confidence, self-esteem, social skills and behaviour.
Our mentors have been attending weekly training sessions, discussing an array of topics and building rapport with their counterparts. We have been blown away by their enthusiasm and commitment to the programme. Earlier this week, they went to Go Ape Southampton as part of a peer bonding day, giving them the chance to further strengthen their relationships as a group.
