Nursery enjoyed celebrating Lunar New Year before half term. They listened to the story of The Great Race to learn about the zodiac animals. They also worked out their birth year animals and discovered there are currently lots of little pigs, rats and oxen in the Nursery! It was also very exciting to discover that 2024 is the year of the dragon!
The children in Caterpillars and Bumblebees practised their cutting skills, making some beautiful red and gold lanterns. Our Butterfly class learned how to count to five in Mandarin Chines and then wrote their ages in both English numerals and Mandarin symbols; practising the shapes with chopsticks in rice before forming them in black paint on lucky red card to take home. All the children in Nursery have been using their senses and fine motor skills to explore the red and yellow rice. They have been scooping and pouring, as well as practising their mark making with chopsticks and fingers.
To finish the week with a bang, Nursery used their creative minds and dexterous fingers to build an enormous, red and gold dragon! They took their dragon for a special parade around Embley. Pupils and teachers at Embley Prep School came out to watch as Nursery danced and wriggled along the corridors like a dragon, playing their instruments and shaking colourful streamers. At the end of their dragon walk, our pupils found a cauldron of lucky red envelopes with a golden coin tucked into each one.
What an exciting celebration – Xīn Nián Kuài Lè!
