Murder in the Citizens' Jury
Students tackled challenging themes in an engaging production of ‘Murder in the Citizens’ Jury’ directed by Drama scholar, Tegan.
'Murder in the Citizens’ Jury' was written by D.A Baden, an author and Professor of Sustainable Business at the University of Southampton. The play is adapted from a TV script ‘The Assassin,’ which won the Writing Climate Pitchfest in 2024. During the play, the characters come together to discuss solutions and exciting new proposals to fix the looming climate crisis. However, all is not as it seems in this intriguing political mystery, and as a murder unfolds our characters are drawn into a moral dilemma.
"This was my first time directing a performance and it has been an amazing experience. I met Denise, the writer of 'Murder in the Citizens' Jury', at a schoars' lecture last year and I was delighted to be offered a chance to direct her play. Since then I have been able to engage in theatre in a new way and have enjoyed the roller-coaster experience."
Tegan, Director (Year 12)
Building on the tradition of ‘theatre in education’, the play aimed to not only entertain but educate and inspire the audience. The cast skilfully navigated the difficult topics, helping raise awareness of citizen’s assemblies and climate policies as they engaged the audience in an ethical dilemma. Our students handled the complex content of the play with great responsibility and confidence, it was wonderful to see their hard work come together in their final performance.
