EMBLEY NEWS
Macbeth
Our talented students put on a bewitching promenade production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
Embley transformed into 11th Century Scotland as we followed the cast on a haunting promenade performance around the grounds. We began in the Performing Arts Centre as a bubbling cauldron set the scene for Macbeth and Banquo to receive a prophecy from the witches. By lantern light, the audience followed Macbeth on an immersive and entertaining journey as our crew cleverly adapted each location to fit the atmosphere of the scene. It was a wonderful opportunity to get close to the action as students used elements of physical theatre to interpret Shakespeare’s classic.
Our talented cast demonstrated the depth of their acting skills in bringing the complex characters to life, with a candlelit Manor House creating the backdrop for the tragic scenes. The results of the students' hard work came together and they really enjoyed the experience:
"Performing in Macbeth was an extremely valuable and enjoyable experience. I managed to understand my character and appreciate Shakespeare in a different way, which will help me for my English GCSE. If I could do this again I absolutely would!"
Charlie (Year 10)"I really enjoyed Macbeth, I made new friends and it helped me build my confidence on stage and in my other subjects. I think the teachers made the experience even more enjoyable since they make everyone feel comfortable on stage."
