Harvest Festival

Embley has been celebrating the Harvest Festival and our pupils enjoyed learning more about agriculture before our Service Committee delivered 280kg of food donations to Romsey Foodbank.

Embley Prep had a special visit from Year 12 student Ollie and his vintage tractor 'Lilly'. He presented an intriguing assembly on the history of farming. The children learnt how technological advancements and new inventions have transformed the way farmers harvest crops, from the Victorians who used steam engines to the invention of the tractor. Ollie then talked about his own tractor, giving insight into the restoration work he has done.

Year 4 pupil India also bought her family’s JCB tractor to visit the school. We learnt about the importance of the agriculture industry, the different animals you might find on a farm and how difficult farming can be. During the day, pupils were excited to discover more about the tractor’s different mechanical parts and how they are maintained.

Our Service Committee members also delivered the school's Harvest Festival collection to Romsey Foodbank. They filled an entire minibus with the generous donations from pupils, parents, staff and our wider community. The donations - totalling 280kg of food - will help support vulnerable families in our local community. A sincere thank you to everyone for their contributions.
