Embley boarders recently enjoyed a week of activities to celebrate the Boarding Schools Association (BSA) National Boarding Week. The itinerary, devised by our energetic boarding team, was packed and varied, with an emphasis on fun, health and well-being.
On Monday, boarders had great fun making model boats out of sustainable material and they enjoyed racing them on a stream in the New Forest on Wednesday, which also enabled them to get their step count in for that day in the House Step Challenge, with each boarder clocking 3000 steps.
Tuesday night’s Boarding House Quiz had everyone in hysterics as they were challenged to guess each other’s baby photos, including the staff.
On Thursday, there was a carousel of outdoor events for Summer Solstice. Activities were centred around nature and the great outdoors with a meditation session in the grounds, surrounded by the calm and beauty of the Embley woods, and a camp-fire so that everyone could enjoy making ‘smores’.
Friday night was movie night and the Manor House was engulfed in the smell of popcorn and slushies. The choice of film was put to the vote and the winner was “Aladdin” and its pertinency to all our students: being able to be true to yourself, just like Aladdin, and learn to let others accept you for who you are.
The theme for the weekend’s activities was wellness and mindfulness and included a colourful canvas painting activity enjoyed by all. On Sunday, the boarding team were humbled to receive a thank you card signed by all the boarders with expressions of how at home they feel in the Boarding House at Embley and how grateful they were.
