An evening with Beatrice Nicholas

We were delighted to welcome pianist and composer Beatrice Nicholas for a solo piano concert entitled 'The American Piano'.

The concert acknowledged America's diverse musical melting pot with classical piano and a smattering of jazz and celebrated the work of composers such as Gershwin, Art Tatum and Jelly Roll Morton. Beatrice was accompanied for two of the pieces by Embley students Oliver (Year 11), and Annabelle and Layla (Year 12).

Preceding the concert, Embley Music Scholars enjoyed an afternoon workshop with Beatrice where they gained an insight into the work of a range of African American, American Indian and European American Composers.

Beatrice Nicholas is a British concert pianist who has performed at prestigious venues around the UK, and in France, Germany, Poland, Thailand and the Czech Republic. Beatrice is also a composer and arranger and her work has been featured on BBC Radio 3. This month, for October Black History Month 2024, Beatrice is releasing a new EP, which features classical music by black women.
