Courses available for international students
Senior School programme
Students can fully immerse themselves in a traditional British Senior School learning experience. Class sizes are small and tailored to monitor and assess students regularly. Click here to find out more.
Full GCSE programme
Year 10 and 11 are important years in the British education system. It is the last two years of compulsory education, culminating in students achieving nine GCSEs. With specialist subject teachers, individual support and regular feedback, we help ensure our students achieve their full potential. Click here to find out more.
Intensive GCSE programme
Our one year Year 11 course allows students to take five GCSEs in one year only, enabling them to quickly advance and achieve the minimum requirement necessary to go on and study A Levels.
Pre-A Level programme
A demanding yet enjoyable fast track programme to develop the English, Maths and academic skills that students will need to be successful in their A Levels. Students can achieve IELTS or IGCSE English as a second language and GCSE/IGCSE Science, Maths and Business Studies. In addition to a comprehensive education, this programme will also provide social, cultural and physical activities to help broaden a student’s learning.
A Level programme
The final preparations before university. Students study subjects (usually three A Levels and an Extended Project Qualification) that play to their academic strengths with personalised curriculums, small class sizes, daily tutor sessions and an extensive co-curricular programme, including an MBA Experience, Nightingale Lecture Series, Oxbridge Programme and university visits and workshops. English language level guidelines
We use the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) for languages. Our minimum requirements are as follows:
For students who are not fluent English speakers or writers when they arrive, we provide tailored English as an Additional Language (EAL) support to meet their individual needs so that they can enjoy and fully benefit from the pace of learning at Embley.
Guardians
All international boarders with parents overseas require a UK resident guardian who lives within 90 minutes travelling time of the school. The guardian will be responsible for overseeing travel and holiday arrangements, looking after a student if he/she cannot be at school, and will take a general interest in your child’s progress.
The guardian you choose must be at least 25 years old and not in full-time education. We can give you a list of guardianship agencies which our pupils use, but we do not make any recommendations.

Applying for a boarding place
1. Submit an enquiry
The first step to joining us as a boarder at Embley is to contact our Admissions team (admissions@embley.org.uk) with:
-
information about your student;
-
the year they wish to join;
- their most recent school report;
- a copy of their passport.
We will use this information to confirm if we are able to consider the student for a place at the school.
2. Visits
We are always delighted to welcome prospective students and their families to visit us in person or virtually, to have a tour of the school and boarding house and meet our teachers and students.
3. Registration
To proceed with an application, you will need to complete an international registration form per student and provide a registration fee of £100.
4. Entrance assessments
Students will be asked to complete our English and Maths entrance assessments under exam conditions – these can either be arranged with the student’s current school, with the British Council or by arrangement with the Admissions team.
5. Interview
A virtual or face-to-face interview will be arranged with our Headmaster. This is an opportunity for the student to tell us more about themselves, their interests and aspirations. It is also an opportunity to ask lots of questions of us so that the student can begin to picture themselves at Embley.
6. Offer and acceptance of place
Successful applicants will be offered a place to join Embley. To accept a place, students will need to complete our acceptance paperwork and pay an acceptance deposit (£500 for EU students, £2,500 for international students).
7. Visa application
Embley has a Sponsor Licence with UKVI. When we have received the acceptance paperwork and deposit and all necessary documentation we will issue a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).
