Sport at Embley Prep
Healthy bodies help create healthy minds which is why sport is a fundamental part of our Prep education. We aim to engage and inspire children across all ages and abilities so that every child will build their confidence through a range of sporting experiences. The teaching of movement fundamentals forms an integral part of our Sports philosophy at Embley.
Our Prep children enjoy a programme of weekly PE lessons and Games lessons twice a week. From the youngest of ages, our coaches instil best sporting practice in training sessions using the facilities that we have available in the school’s grounds. These include rugby pitches, an all-weather Astroturf pitch, athletics track, cricket nets, netball courts, a 9-hole course, a covered swimming pool and tennis courts.
In Years 1 and 2, we focus on building the foundations of physical literacy. Lessons centre around mastering core skills such as basic movement, balance, agility and coordination. During these years, children begin to explore Embley’s core sports.
From Year 3, children join our Games programme and play modified competitive games as they continue to develop physically, building their flexibility, strength and stamina. As children move up the school, opportunities to represent Embley in fixtures and tournaments increase.
Embley’s core competitive sports are rugby (boys), hockey (girls and boys), netball (girls) and cricket (girls and boys). The children also take part in outdoor and adventurous activity challenges, both individually and in teams, such as sailing and skiing. Additional recreational sports available include golf, athletics, tennis, cross country, swimming, gymnastics and dance.
