Our Outdoor Education Department enjoyed a jam-packed first half term; from skiing and sailing to climbing and exploring the outdoors, there has been something for everyone!
Twenty Embley sailors with a wide range of experience competed at the first SWAC Schools Regatta since Covid. It was a perfect day for sailing with a good breeze and plenty of sunshine. All our sailors did incredibly well, with some very high standards of sailing; as well as some new sailors competing at their first ever event. A special shout out to Harry, who came first overall sailing a Laser Radial, and to Freddie and Will who came second sailing a Feva – beating some very experienced sailors who have competed at a national level.
Other students also took part in the annual ET Team Racing Championships, a prestigious race that Embley aims to enter each year. After a couple of weeks of extra training, our students took to the water in their new sailing bibs and did brilliantly against some extremely stiff competition.
Our Embley Tors are underway with students having participated in their first training session including a campout with night navigation! They practiced navigation in poor visibility and had to rely on their ability to use bearings and pacing. We are glad to report everyone managed to successfully find their way! The following morning students showed off their campcraft and culinary skills using their new Jetboils. They then spent the day on group hikes, each with different navigational points, giving them the opportunity to explore different terrain including paths, bogs, moorland and forest. They are very excited for their next multi-day hike which is fast approaching!
Our Junior and Senior Ski Club members have been improving as they work towards the first competition of this academic year. In October they were excited to compete in the NSSA South Ski Championships at Hemel Hempstead. It was a brilliant day of challenging competition. Our Embley C team placed 3rd in the mixed category, with Isabel also achieving an excellent 3rd in the U16 girls’ category. A huge congratulations to all our talented skiers, with a special mention to Mollie, Ollie and Jack from our Junior Ski Club who were competing in their first competition!
Our limbing co-curricular offering is ever growing. We now run a junior climbing club at Golden Gecko and a senior climbing club at Parthian, with all our pupils progressing fantastically. In Games, some of our Senior School students have started their NICAS journey and Ava in Year 10 has been competing at the YCS and WBL at Parthian. We are excited to see how climbing at Embley continues to grow.
