On 20 June we extended a warm welcome to the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) for its annual cricket match, which took place on the Pavilion pitch at Embley. Embley’s team comprised a mixture of current students and old boys, all eager to take on the MCC for a much awaited day of cricket. Alongside the social aspect of the MCC match, the fixture enables the club to promote the sport and to witness emerging talent.
MCC batted first, scoring 209 runs off 40 overs. Embley, on return, scored 120 all out. Year 10 student Lottie was awarded the Spirit of Cricket Cap by the opposition at the end of the game, for her bowling performance where she bowled five overs with no wickets for 10 runs.
Afterwards, Embley’s Director of Sport, Mr McCredie commented: “After a damp starts and extra hard work from the grounds staff we managed to complete a full game of cricket. Both teams played really well and thoroughly enjoyed their day and the opportunity to test their skills. We are already looking forward to welcoming the MCC back next year.”
