On Saturday 7 May, two student teams from Embley took part in the British Schools Dinghy Racing Association Western Area Championships on Chew Valley Lake near Bristol with 12 teams taking part in total. After an incredible 90 races throughout the day, with the Embley teams completing 10 races each, we finished 2nd and 3rd overall, with only an experienced Winchester team topping our teams.
Representing Embley were Harry W and Olly B teamed with Emily M, and Eloise H and Max T and Henry C teamed with James M & Sean J. Team racing sees two teams of two boats battle it out over a course with the goal to make sure neither of your boats finish last. It results in fast and furious close-quarters action with the outcome often changing in the last seconds of the race.
One of the most exciting races was when the two Embley teams went head-to-head. The match-up went back and forth repeatedly, only being decided on the finish line as Harry & Olly nipped ahead of Max & Henry. Definitely a highlight for the spectators!
If your child is a keen dingy sailor, there is still a chance to represent Embley as part of this parent lead group. All students interested would need to be able to sail at a reasonable standard, such as having entered open races or above, and be able to travel to events as necessary.
